Spanish Conquistadors: Heroes Or Murderers :: essays research papers fc

Spanish Conquistadors Heroes or Murderers     "The Indians in the first fatal decades of the white man in America wereconquered because they could non conceive what it was that the white man wasafter, and what manner of man he was." (The Indians of the Americas, p97)     This misconception, was that the Indians could not imagine was that theSpanish Conquistadors would come to the Americas and brutally murder men womenand children in the name of a god. They could not run into how a group of bulkcould follow such a god. The Spanish conquistadors raped the American natives oftheir naiveness. The Spanish conquistadors took away the Indians right to theirway of life and their landed estate.     Living in the unite States of America, its hard to imagine a group of volume coming into our country, and winning our land. But this event has alreadyhappened, almost 500 years ago. The people who dominated the United States before the Spanish invasion roamed among a 2 large continents. Today the Indiansare restricted to reserves or reservations. Their land has been taken fromthem, and little if any was given in return. The people who break among thesereservations try to preserve the old way of life.     Another thing taken from the Indians of Americas was their way of life. One thing almost all people discombobulate close to their heart is their way of lifewhatever it may be. The Indians except were persecuted for their beliefs andeither killed or converted to the Spanish Catholicism or numerous other varyingways of life. This conversion did not take gift peacefully. Many resistingIndians died for their cause. The Indians of the Americas could no longer huntand gather food freely. Nor could they stir just for their community. Strong menwere taken as slaves either to Hispa ola (Modern Day Haiti), Cuba or taken backto Spain. Such slaves were often worked to death, because of the manifestlyendless supply of American Indians. Other Indians were forced to pay premium tothe Spanish by working on farms to feed the invaders when they themselves werebarely provide enough to live. Some American Indians went so far as to redactmass suicides and not to have children, because they knew their fate if theywere to go on aliment or to bring another child into the world only to see him orher worked to death (Collier, 63). Another very important factor in the demiseof Native American Indians was disease, the native Americans had no immunity tothe European diseases.
